Solenoid Solutions offers a broad range of direct acting solenoid valve designs for original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in a wide variety of industries, including the medical, dental, energy, gas appliance, transportation and process industries. We specialize in innovative designs and superior craftsmanship in our products and a driven response to customer requirements ensuring the highest quality products are delivered on a timely basis to exacting standards.
Solenoid valves control the flow of liquid or gas media in all types of systems and products. These electromechanically operated valves are available in a wide range of configurations and materials to control the flow of media in a wide variety of applications. Solenoid valves shut off or allow fluid or gas flow when electrically energized or de-energized. Solenoid valves are used to shut off, release, dose, distribute or mix fluids or gasses and may have two or more ports to accomplish the task. Two-way solenoid valves have one inlet and one outlet port and a single orifice while three-way valves have three port connections and two valve orifices.
Solenoid Solutions offers miniature solenoid valves, subminiature solenoid valves, high capacity solenoid valves and low wattage or low power solenoid valves. Below are descriptions and diagrams of 2-way and 3-way operating solenoid valves.

In 2-way normally closed solenoid valves, pressure flow from one port to the other is blocked until the power is on and the valve is energized. This allows the media to flow freely through the valve. Alternatively, in 2-way normally open valves, pressure flows from one port to the other when the power is off and the valve is de-energized; and when the power is on and the valve energized, fluid flow ceases.

3-way valves have three pipe connections or ports and 2 orifices, one of which is always open, allowing for 2 paths of flow depending on the energized state of the valve. This allows for flow or pressure to be applied or stopped to a tool or equipment component such as a hydraulic cylinder when the valve is energized or (de-energized) and then for that flow or pressure to be reversed when the valve is de-energized (or energized). There are four common types of 3-way solenoid valves: 3-way Normally Closed, 3-way Normally Open, 3-way Directional Control and 3-way Multi Purpose.
Our standard direct acting solenoid valves are available in inlet port sizes from 10-32 UNF to 3/8”, 2 –way or 3-way operation with capacity up to 1200 psi. The bodies, seals and coil types are constructed from materials designed to handle even the most extreme operating environments. Our valves are engineered and manufactured to work with corrosive materials and in temperature extremes.
Primary factors in valve selection include port size, voltage and operating pressure. Special considerations such as body size requirements, type of media and operating environment will also impact valve design and configuration. Once these aspects are ascertained, reference charts in this site and our Terminology page will guide you to the proper solenoid valve selection.
